MEET JEAN
Jean Gannon resides in Powhatan County, VA, with her husband Thomas of 40 years. Since 2008 Jean has been considered one of the top grassroots activists promoting Republican values in the Commonwealth. Today, her focus has taken an unexpected turn.
JEAN HAS ANNOUNCED HER CANDIDACY
for
VIRGINIA STATE SENATE, DISTRICT 10
With the impending election of Senator John Mcguire on November, 5, 2024, his Senate seat will be vacated and a Republican candidate will be nominated to run in the General Election for that seat. This was not something that Jean considered lightly. As a matter of fact, she rejected the idea from several close friends and activists, but as she thought more and more about it she knew that someone needs to take a stand and represent the people of the 10th District with conservative values and effective leadership skills. Her foray in the world of politics for the past 16 years has prepared her for just such and endeavor.
Jean has been a resident of Powhatan County for the past 24 years. She and Thomas moved to Powhatan with their two young daughters and her father, a stroke-survivor. The move was beneficial for all. Grandpa had a safe and comfortable suite that accommodated his handicap and the girls were closer to their school. It was the story of a city girl moving to the country. She embraced her community and planted her roots. She can be quoted as saying “I’m going out feet first”.
Jean has been an active member of the Powhatan County Republican Committee (PCRC) since 2008. Her extensive involvement within the committee spans multiple election cycles, during which she consistently supported Republican nominees through various campaign efforts, fundraising events, and vital operations on Election Day.
In 2016, Jean's unwavering dedication and leadership were recognized when she was elected as the Chair of the PCRC through a mass meeting. After assuming this role, she effectively led and guided the committee, ensuring its continued success and strong representation within the community. The remarkable achievements of the PCRC under Jean's guidance were acknowledged in 2018, as she was honored with the prestigious Unit Chair of the Year award. Subsequently, in 2019, the PCRC was bestowed with the esteemed Unit of the Year accolade at the RPV Advance, a testament to the exceptional work accomplished by the committee under Jean's stewardship. Her dedication to the party's growth and influence is evident even in her role as Past Chair of the PCRC, where she continues to provide valuable insights and guidance to fellow committee members.
Jean's commitment to Republican principles can be traced back to the 2009 election of Governor Bob McDonnell, which ignited her full-throttle foray into politics. Since then, she has immersed herself in various Republican organizations, including the Republican Party of Virginia (RPV), the Virginia Federation of Republican Women (VFRW), and the Republican National Committee (RNC). Jean's involvement in these entities has been marked by active participation and meaningful contributions aimed at advancing the Republican cause and values. Jean is currently serving the Republican National Committee, the Republican Party of Virginia and the TRUMP Campaign as a Region Director for Protect The Vote, the 2024 campaign initiative for election Integrity. Her experience in elections including Logistics and Accuracy testing then moving on to the election process, early and absentee voting and the final canvass when elections are reconciled makes her an expert in her field as an Election Integrity Director.
Jean is an asset to every organization that she joins. Outside of her political engagements, Jean is a highly accomplished real estate appraiser. Holding the esteemed SRA and AI-RRS designations from the Appraisal Institute, she specializes in high-end residential real estate, and frequently testifies as an expert witness in cases involving real estate. Her expertise and contributions have been widely recognized within the industry, as demonstrated by her appointment to the Executive Committee and subsequent presidency of the Virginia Commonwealth Chapter of the Appraisal Institute in 2016. Jean's commitment to excellence in her field also led to her active participation in regional and national committees associated with the Appraisal Institute.
Furthermore, Jean's significant contributions to the real estate industry were further acknowledged through her appointment to the Virginia Real Estate Appraiser Board by former Governor Bob McDonnell, where she served diligently from 2013 to 2018. She was re-appointed by Governor Glenn Youngkin in 2021. During her tenure on the board, Jean has leveraged her expertise and insights to make informed decisions that positively impacted the real estate appraisal profession in Virginia. Most recently she served on a subcommittee satisfying Governor Youngkin’s request to reduce regulations by 25%. Needless to say, after many meetings and much debate, her team was successful.
